Can't activate FaceTime

Hi everyone

I bought a new MacBook today and I was setting up all my different account. However when I wanted to log into m FaceTime account, I received the message that an error occurred during activation. I was searching through different forums (including apple support), yet it only said to go to FaceTime>Preferences; this option is greyed out so I am not able to open the FaceTime preferences. I honestly tried everything, including checking if my time zone is correct. Please, if anyone has a solution to my problem let me know
