Files on external hard drive show up as "?" question marks in search, date set to 1970. Help?
Hi all,
since the last mac OS update to 10.13.1 I've had problems with my NTFS formatted external hard drive.
I'm using Paragon software as a third party driver for the hdd.
After discussions with Paragon support and updating that software as well as backing up the data and formatting on a Windows PC to NTFS*, I could access my external hdd again, but I'm noticing that I can't search the hdd any more. If I do, files are found but show up as question marks "?"), with a date created set to Jan 1st 1970.
I have since:
- verified the drive with Paragon software (no errors)
- back-upped to another external hdd, erased the drive and re-formatted as exFAT
- verified the exFAT formatted drive with Disk Utility
Still, none of this solves the error.
It's very hard to find needed files without using search, so this is a real bother. Considering buying a new external HDD but not sure if that would solve the problem...
Any help is appreciated!!!
Thanks
Christina
PS: *I had backed up all my data on the external hdd before I formatted to NTFS as described above. The backup volume is another external hdd, but in Mac os format. Interestingly, on that hard drive, I can still search and find files as should be normal. So it looks like the data on the HDD is not inherently corrupt or at least was not corrupt at that point in time...
