iPad won't turn on!

My iPad was not with me and not in use for months and was battery dead.

Now today I have put it in charge and even after what I think is sufficient charging, while charging apple logo comes as a blink and goes away and it keeps happening. Power reset or holding down home button, holding down home and power button together doesn't solve the problem either.

I tried to resolve this issue by reading various suggestions online and some suggested to connect the iPad to iTunes, but after I connect the iPad to my Mac, now the connect to iTunes symbol comes on iPad but the iTunes isn't detecting the iPad.
