Mac Pro almost at 128°C while starting up

MacPro 2,1 almost all Temps at 128°C at boot. Leads to Fans at full blast on startup, what could be the problem?

I've often had the problem that all fans were at full blast on startup on my 2006 2,1 macPro (upgraded to 2,1) but a SMC reset usually did the trick... Now it doesn't. I've checked the sensor connections. Most of them still show 128°C which leads to the fans kicking up.

Here are all temps:

And while working all 8 red lights on the memory DIMM Slots are glowing red (not blinking). The Mac still boots fine and shows all 20gb.

I'm absolutely puzzled and hope somebody can help!

All the best,

Alex

Hi Alexboro,

I dont think any processes are involved here, because you are referring to it being hot even at startup.

So please don't bother with Activity monitor.

This really seems like broken sensors, connections, or controller.

A temperature of 128°C means a maxed out value it think. or literally the highest value the sensor can output or the controller can display whatever.

Throttling of hardware usually occurs when over 100°C, so 128 °C is not even possible I think. at startup this is even more impossible to get to 128°C

Get intel Power Gadget, to watch your Clock speeds and run a benchmark or a rendering just to get the computer working on max power. If everything works comparable to other Mac Pros 2.1 your Temperature hardware is somehow broken and you just have to live with fans going up all the time. if not, you have real heat issues by old heat grease or something else and your computer will be dead soon because heat.

My opinion is your temperatures are totally okay, but your computer thinks they are way too hot, thus kicking the fans up.

If anything works, just to make sure, open the computer, look if the fans are working, lubricate them if neccesary, (carefully!!) check for dust, unplug some Sensor connections and check if these show 128°C even when not plugged in.

Best regards!
