My WD Elements 2 gb does'nt show contents of folders. MacBookPro's harddisk utility app cannot help showing failure number 69874. Could be a damaged directory of the external hd? Is ther a way to repair?

Try resetting the SMC: Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support.
If you are able to mount it, use that opportunity to extract as much undamaged content from that disk as possible. The hard disk itself cannot be fixed and at least some data is already irretrievably gone.

I think your option will be the solution of a veritable further problem ...
I'll tell you what I did ten minutes later:
1) Trying check-out of external disk on screen: Impossible because external disk "was busy" doing I don't know what.
2) Trying restart computer: Impossible for the same reason.
3) Forcing restart by typing cmd-ctrl-Start: I had to wait a little bit longer, and everything resulted as normal as used before.
