Apple Watch: fully disable calls and messages? Communication Lock feature request

I get what you mean. You’re not asking for quieter notifications or a Focus mode — you’re asking for a real watchOS-level switch that prevents Apple Watch from being used for calls and messages at all, while keeping safety features separate.

Based on Apple’s current public documentation, I don’t see a system-wide setting that does that.

I. What Apple Watch can do today

Focus and Do Not Disturb can reduce interruptions and limit which people or apps can notify you. Schooltime can restrict app use during scheduled times, especially on a child’s Apple Watch. Screen Time can also limit contacts and communication apps for a child’s Apple Watch set up through Apple Watch For Your Kids.

Those options can help in school, work, family, or focus situations, but they are still restrictions or notification controls. They are not the same as fully disabling Phone and Messages as watchOS communication features.

II. What does not appear to be available

Apple lists the built-in Apple Watch apps that can be deleted, and Phone and Messages are not listed there. So at least based on Apple’s current documentation, there does not appear to be an official way to remove or fully disable those apps on Apple Watch.

That makes your request different from the usual “turn off notifications” advice.

III. Best way to send this to Apple

Using “Me too” here can show interest from other users, but the most direct official route is Apple’s Apple Watch feedback page. I’d submit it there as a feature request and explain the exact use cases: health-only use, children, elderly family members, school, work, clinical, religious, or focus situations.

The useful distinction in your idea is that communication would be locked separately, while Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and other safety features could remain available.
