Cant adjust alarm volume

I’ve been having an issue for a while now with the alarm sound level.

Since updating to IOS26 (or maybe even slightly before that, I’m not entirely sure) my alarm volume has basically tripled. I am someone who needs a few, very quiet alarms in the morning. The first to wake up (third party app, still works like a charm) and the other ago stay awake.

Lately my alarms have been blaring on a level where I basically sit up straight in bed, it feels very anxiety-inducing and I’ve tried EVERYTHING.

From adjusting the volume bar in the sound setting (I didn’t touch it btw… IOS just decided to change the way my alarms behave. It has always been set to the lowest possible setting), I’ve activated and deactivated the „change volume with sound button“ setting numerous times while trying it with with my phone on different Volume settings. No matter what I do it plays my alarm at least at 30% volume. I’ve chosen different alarm ringtones, I’ve gone to the local Genius Bar where the support tech basically just said „yeah no clue“…

I truly feel like I’m going insane with this, it’s stressing me out so much in the morning and I just don’t know what to do anymore.

Honestly IOS26 has been horrendous anyways (basically killed my battery and I hate the glass effect) and this is just the final nail in the coffin that might actually convince me to get a different phone and move away from iPhone for the first time in a decade. I’m so sick of it.

If anybody has any ideas I’ll really really appreciate it!

Hi teckhrdt,

thanks for the screenshots. Since these are regular Clock alarms and your “Ringtone and Alerts” volume is already set very low, I wouldn’t keep changing the same setting over and over.

As a workaround, try one test alarm with Sound set to “None” and use vibration/haptics instead, at least for the follow-up alarms that are only meant to keep you awake. Also check Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Haptics, since your screenshot shows haptics set to “Never Play”.

If even new test alarms ignore the lowest alert volume, I’d report exactly that back to Apple: regular Clock alarms, alert volume at minimum, still playing much louder than expected.

Hi teckhrdt,

I’d first check whether this happens with regular Clock alarms, Sleep Schedule alarms, or both. Sleep/Wake Up alarms have their own sound and alarm settings, so that distinction matters.

For regular alarms, the relevant setting is Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone and Alerts. “Change with Buttons” only controls whether the side buttons can adjust that alert volume.

Since you already tested the slider and different tones, create one new test alarm during the day with the softest tone. If that still plays too loud at the lowest alert volume, that’s useful to know.
