Activation Lock shows a different Apple ID after I sold my iPhone 13

Hello everyone,

I need some advice because I have never experienced this situation before.

I bought an iPhone 13 brand new from MediaMarkt in Germany and I was the only owner.

Before selling it, I erased all content and settings. The iPhone no longer appears in my Apple Account or in Find My, so as far as I can tell, it is no longer linked to my account.

The buyer is now seeing an Activation Lock screen. However, the Apple Account shown on the screen is not my Apple Account.

My Apple Account begins with “sk…”, while the Activation Lock screen is asking for an account that begins with “o…”.

The buyer has the original box and the original MediaMarkt receipt. I no longer have the device or the receipt because they were included in the sale.

Has anyone ever seen a situation where Activation Lock shows a completely different Apple Account after the device was erased?

Is there anything I can do from my side, or can only Apple investigate and resolve this?

Thank you very much for any advice.

If the iPhone no longer appears in Find My under your Apple Account, there’s nothing else you can remove from your side.

I’d have the buyer first compare the iPhone’s serial number or IMEI with the original box and MediaMarkt receipt. A different Apple Account on the Activation Lock screen could mean the device details don’t match, so that’s worth ruling out first.

If everything matches, the buyer should submit an Activation Lock support request using the original proof of purchase. Since they have both the phone and receipt, they’re in the best position to do that.

Don’t give the buyer your Apple Account password or verification codes.
