Notes Password Forgotten

I’m sorry you’re dealing with that, especially given what’s stored in those notes.

If you protected the notes with a custom Notes password and have forgotten it, resetting that password will not unlock notes that were already locked with the old password. Apple is explicit about that.

Before changing anything, I’d try opening one of the locked notes and see whether Face ID is offered. If Face ID had previously been enabled for Notes and still works, you may be able to open the note and immediately copy the contents somewhere safe.

I would not reset the Notes password yet, because that won’t recover access to the existing locked notes and could make things more confusing.

If Face ID isn’t available, do you have another Apple device where you previously opened these same locked notes, such as an iPad or Mac?

Just to clarify one point, Sinem:

this is not specifically a Windows issue. The important question is whether any of your Apple devices can still open those locked notes using Face ID, Touch ID, or the previously used Notes password.

If Face ID is still offered on your iPhone, please try that first. If the note opens, I would immediately copy or export the contents somewhere safe.

If you have another Mac, iPad or iPhone on which you previously accessed those same locked notes, I would also check there before changing or resetting anything.

Unfortunately, Apple confirms that resetting a forgotten custom Notes password does not unlock notes that were protected with the old password.

For now, I would therefore avoid resetting the Notes password until you have checked those possibilities.

Sind Notizen mit einem expliziten Passwort gesperrt, gibt es keine Möglichkeit ein vergessenes Passwort zurückzusetzen. Die Notizen lassen sich dann nicht mehr öffnen.

Waren Notizen mit dem Gerätecode geschützt, kann dieser zwar zurückgesetzt werden, der Vorgang löscht indes sämtliche Inhalte des iPhones. Sollte kein Backup existieren, sind die Notizen auch dann verloren.

Ich persönlich nutze aus eben diesen Gründen nie ein Passwort für Notizen.

Meine Geräte sind mit einem Gerätecode/Face-/Touch-ID gut gesichert, damit sind auch meine Notizen sicher.

Und: in dem von Netcraker verlinkten Text würde ich gerne auf folgenden Passus hinweisen wollen:

"Apple hat keinen Zugriff auf gesperrte Notizen und kann dir nicht helfen, auf sie zuzugreifen, wenn du dein Passwort für Notizen vergessen hast. Wenn dir dein Passwort für Notizen nicht einfällt, kannst du nach dem Zurücksetzen des Passworts nicht mehr auf zuvor gesperrte Notizen zugreifen. Wenn du das Passwort zurücksetzt und ein neues Passwort für Notizen erstellst, kannst du nur künftige Notizen sperren."

Das ist entscheidend - vor - dem Vergeben eines Passwortes zu berücksichtigen.

Ach ja! Englisch! Ich dachte was soll denn MS Notes auf einem Apple Gerät? Muss man Notizen nochmals absichern? Gibt’s die Möglichkeit Passwörter auf einem anderen Gerät zu sichern?
