I need to unlock the Iphone

Good afternoon

I bought in 2014 in a Worten store, one Iphone 6, locked to Vodafone Portugal,
without loyalty.

Now, 4 years later and I shift to the States, I need to unlock the
Iphone, because I want to buy a local SIM card.

Vodafone Portugal asks me about 170 euros for the unlock.

Is this legal, after all these years?

Hello, good afternoon!

As we can see in the article Como desbloquear o iPhone para usar com outra operadora - Suporte da Apple, to unlock your iPhone to use with another Carrier, you have to contact the original Carrier, like you did.

In the article, there's the information that only the Carrier can unlock the iPhone, this way, I think we may be subject to the Carrier conditions.
