Hi,

When you try to complete a purchase, what is the error message that you receive?

Is it asking you to enter a payment method?

If so, is this your first time making a purchase on the Apple ID, and using Store Credit?

Yes: you will need to add your card information in order to complete the purchase. This is expected behavior, and occurs when no purchases have been made on the Apple ID, and a payment method to verify billing info has not been added to the Apple ID. You will not be charged for adding a payment method, and the store credit will always be consumed first before charging the primary card on file. You can also remove the card afterwards.

No: confirm that you do not have any active subscriptions, an iCloud+ storage plan, or any unpaid balances owed on the Apple ID. For subscriptions & iCloud+, these renewals can be paid for using the available store credit, but you would have to keep a card associated to the Apple ID in order to maintain the subscription renewals. This is to avoid getting any unpaid balances on your Apple ID in the event the store credit is consumed, and there is no way to pay for your active renewals.
