Safari 13.1.2?

I am having random problems with the functioning of some websites with Safari. My iMac is a mid 2011 with Sierra 10.13.6, latest available for my model. I was blaming it on the web sites, but I found that I can use the web sites without problem on my iPad?

1) Is there another browser that would fit my current iMac better than Safari?

2) Is it just time to replace my iMac with newer model, and upgraded software?

I only use my iMac for personal home/office use, nothing exotic, no gaming, etc. I want, need, security first and foremost.

Your iMac is probably running Safari 13.1.2 which corresponds to macOS 10.13.6.

Some websites insist upon using the latest browser version, so the version of Safari that works on your Mac running High Sierra will eventually grow too old.

If you have a need to use a website that won't function properly, you can try Brave, or Firefox:

https://brave.com/

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

Both of them work fine with High Sierra and are updated frequently, whereas Apple stops updating Safari when they stop updating macOS.

2) Is it just time to replace my iMac with newer model, and upgraded software?

New things are always nice to have. I won't try to talk you out of buying a new one, but if your iMac still does everything you need it to do there is no compelling need to replace it.

Macs last a long time. The one I use the most is a MacBook Air about as old as your iMac, probably because it travels so well. It's on its second battery which still lasts most of the day.

I have desktop iMacs even older than that and they still do 90% of what I typically do.

John: Thanks so much, I will give them, (Firefox), a try! I have always been Leary of going "outside" the Apple Community of programs. Thinking that staying in the Apple cocoon meant better security, and better integration?

My iMac works perfectly for what I need, hopefully with your advice I can keep it going a few more years!
