Cancel App Store purchase made by accident?

You can't cancel it but you can ask for a refund.

Here's how to request an app or media refund from Apple (From: Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support - see the article for more detail.)

1. Sign in to https://reportaproblem.apple.com

2. Tap or click "I'd like to," then choose "Request a refund."

3. Choose the reason why you want a refund, then choose Next.

4. Choose the app, subscription, or other item, then choose Submit.

That is exactly what a Free Trial is. You need to cancel the trial at least 24 hours before the end of the trial period to avoid being charged. You can cancel by following this:

If you sign up for a free trial for the app on a website it will need to be cancelled from there, as some companies do not want you to be able to cancel the subscription easily when it is being managed by Apple.

In the App Store select your account, select Purchase History, the app and then Report a Problem. Here you can Request a Refund for a number of reasons including Right of Withdrawal. You have a 14 day window from the date of purchase to do this.

If you got an email receipt, use the 'Report a Problem' link in it. Otherwise, click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for a refund.
