Adding a Hybrid COX & Yahoo! email account to Apple Mail

COX migrated all of its customers' email addresses to Yahoo!. When this transfer was complete, I could no longer us Apple Mail with the COX server addresses. So, my email address still ends in @cox.net but the IMAP and SMTP servers are imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com. I attempted to change the server info but that did not work. I deleted the account and then tried to add it back in with the Yahoo! server info. That did not work. Does Apple Mail require that the email extension and servers match? So far, I do not like the Yahoo! Mail app. Thanks for any help!

Similar things happened a few years ago when Verizon transitioned their email to AOL. You could keep your @verizon.net email address but you had to create a new account in Mail using the AOL server addresses & get an app password from AOL. It was not documented anwhere that I recall. At the time I solved it more by trial & error than anything else.

No such requirement from Apple.

Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

Yahoo has gone to this too...

Most likely biggest factor is using Other in Mail setup, then using a Browser that doesn’t have Yahoo PW stored init to get the App PW.

Thank you so much. I never would have figured this out. I have two accounts that I needed to fix. I had trouble with sending for one of the accounts. After changing the settings (including the new Yahoo app password), and saving, Mail kept reverting back to the old SMTP password. This did not happen in the other account.

I need additional help with Mail. It appears that the old password for the email account is saved somewhere and is autofilling, so I cannot save/use the new Yahoo App password. Where can I find that autofill password?
