HP envy 6554E printer -purchased 5/2/2024

the printer says it is not compatible with High Sierra 10.13.6 when i tried to install HPSMART app. my work around is add printer the normal way and use airprint. I am wondering if my imac (2014) will become unstable if i keep this printer. it seems to b working ok as long as i keep the thunderbolt cable connected to it. If not it shows offline even though the wireless icon is lit up on the printer like its connected to my network.(which it is) Any suggestions?
