Ripping music from CDs, getting static on track

I recently purchased a few audio CDs that I want to store on my iPod so I can listen to them later. The problem is, they are static-y. I have the import setting at AAC, high quality and have checked the box to use error correction when reading audio CDs. My new Sound BlasterX AE5 Plus is set to 32 bit, 192 kHz for playback. I am unsure if I have missed a setting somewhere. I am on Windows 10. My previous sound card (Creative Labs Audigy SE) did not have this problem, all music ripped came out fine. The only other upgrades to the system from the last time I ripped a CD is to the processor, RAM and motherboard. I ran the iTunes diagnostic and this is what it spat out:

Windows, Windows 10

PM,

iTunes has exactly one setting that affects CD reading, and that is error correction. So please try the classic Apple advice " If the “Use error correction when reading Audio CDs” checkbox isn’t selected, select it. If it’s already selected, deselect it."

If it is only one CD giving you trouble (the one with a playing time of 73:37) the problem may be with the CD. See if it will rip correctly on somebody else's known-good machine.

If needed, you can assemble the iTunes diagnostics and try it on Apple Support

It is not only this CD. It is both of the CDs I purchased after upgrading the sound card. I first ripped them without the Error correction on, and noticed the static, then ripped them again with it on, and still got the same thing. Should I try a higher bitrate format? Or go with lossless, even though I'm putting it on the iPod? I would rather not have to try to hunt down this music in the iTunes store and pay for it again. Especially since I think some of it is not going to be there.

Hi PM,

OK, it sounds like you have already tried the classic Apple advice about error correction. You can go ahead and experiment with a different encoding format.

You can try a better ripping tool such Exact Audio Copy (per your other post) or dBPowerAmp. They sometimes succeed where iTunes fails.

It is also possible that you have a copy-protected audio CD. They were publicized 10-15 years ago, and were known unofficially as "Defective by Design." They are designed not to allow an accurate rip. The biggest offenders were Sony and Warner Brothers.
