Timestamp of photo wrong?

I received a photo last November in iMessage my friend took and I downloaded it today, but when I click on the info button after download, it has a time stamp of February 2024, not November 2023. Why is this date/time showing as February when it was sent in November? Could my friend have adjusted the timestamp on the actual photo which updated on the photo they sent to me?

Many methods to share a photo will remove metadata like the capture time, the location, named faces etc for privacy reasons, so nobody can tell by the shared photos where and when the photo has been taken. When you save a shared photo to Photos, and the shared photo does not have an embedded capture date, the Photos, app may be using the current date as the date taken.
