Can't re-enable favourites in Safari Smart Search Field after disabling all items

In Safari 17.3.1 I unticked all the options in the favourites panel contextual menu (so I could hide private info while screen recording) BUT now the panel won't appear any more, and there appears to be no way to re-enable the items.

This applies to the favourites panel from the search bar NOT the favourites screen in a new window or new tab. PLEASE that last sentence again before suggesting to ensure that 'New windows open with:' should be set to 'homepage'.

Search -> Smart Search Field -> Show Favourites is definitely turned on.

I took a screenshot of the offending contextual menu in Safari Technology Preview.

So to reproduce:

  • Ensure Search -> Smart Search Field -> Show Favourites is turned on
  • Click in search field
  • Right click (ctrl click) to bring up contextual menu and disable all items

The panel vanishes and there's no way to bring it back
