Bogus Additional MAC Address wifi connection

My iMac is making two distinct connections to my Wlan AP, one is the normal interface the second one, that I dont understand is only accessing certain Apple locations in the background e.g.

time.apple.com

e1329.g.akamaiedge.net

mesu.apple.com

If I mac-address filter the mac address from my router then my iMac no longer has the ability to connect to any wireless lan connection, which is really odd since this is not the same mac-address listed as hardware under wifi connections and is not the same mac-address used for internet access.

Does the 2020 iMac have dual mac-addresses on one interface?
