Problem with Music App after macOS Sonoma update

Hello,

I have a Macbook 2023 and a Macbook 2017. With the new update of the Macbook 2023 to Sonoma, the Mac 2017 could no longer be updated to the Sonoma operating system...

The following problem: I sort my music into folders in the Music app. Normally I could copy the Music and iTunes folders (From Macbook 2023 to Mac 2017), select the MusicLibrary.musiclibrary file and the songs and folder structure were identical on both Macs.

If I now want to carry out the named procedure, the Mac 2017 shows: the file "MusicLibrary..." was created by another operating system and cannot be read.

Unfortunately, downgrading the Mac 2023 is not possible for reasons of its own. Can you convert the file "MusicLibrary.."? Do you know another solution to this problem?

Hi kaettis,

It seems like you're experiencing compatibility issues with the MusicLibrary.musiclibrary file after updating one of your Macs to the Sonoma operating system. Unfortunately, there's no direct way to convert this file to be compatible with older macOS versions.

However, there are a couple of alternative solutions you can try:

  1. Export/import playlists and libraries: Instead of copying the entire MusicLibrary.musiclibrary file, you can try exporting your playlists and library from the Music app on the Macbook 2023 and then importing them into the Music app on the Macbook 2017. This won't transfer everything identically, but it will ensure you have your playlists and music available.
  2. Use iCloud Music Library: If you're subscribed to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you can use the iCloud Music Library feature to sync your music library across devices. This way, you don't have to manually transfer files between Macs, and your library stays up to date.
  3. Third-party software: There are some third-party software solutions that claim to help with transferring iTunes libraries between different macOS versions. However, be cautious when using such software and ensure it's from a reputable source.
  4. Contact Apple Support: If none of the above solutions work or if you have specific concerns about compatibility, you can reach out to Apple Support for further assistance. They may have additional insights or suggestions to help resolve your issue.

Keep in mind that compatibility between different macOS versions can sometimes be challenging, especially when dealing with complex files like MusicLibrary.musiclibrary. Exploring the options above may help you find a suitable workaround for your situation.

Good luck!

I tried this without succes: "Export/import playlists and libraries: Instead of

copying the entire MusicLibrary.musiclibrary file, you can try exporting

your playlists and library from the Music app on the Macbook 2023 and

then importing them into the Music app on the Macbook 2017. This won't

Has anyone a solution? I had around 100 Playlists before I had to reinstall my mac book with Sonoma :-(

And the other options (see Lechos): I don't want to restart - I want my old playlists back. Maybe in the future I could "Use iCloud Music Library" eventually...

No 2: I am already waiting for the apple support, but no help yet.

No 3: Does anyone has good experiencens with advise no. 3 "Third-party software: There are some third-party software solutions that claim to help with transferring iTunes libraries between different macOS versions. However, be cautious when using such software and ensure it's from a reputable source.!" Which trustworthy third-party software could help?

Hi anniki,

So if you want to achieve something, you have to prioritize and do what is possible. Do you want the old playlist and have to do certain things for it or not and you do everything very simply...!

And BTW. We are here a German-speaking Support Community. When you need an English-speaking Support Community, change the language! So if you ask a question in English, don't expect people to answer you in English so quickly!

Kind regards
