Volume sync issues with AirPlay 2
Hi! I have no clue which part of my setup causes this issue. My reason for posting here is finding out who the culprit is and if other users have similar problems like mine.
The problem: when streaming with Apple Music to an Airplay 2 streamer (Matrix Audi Mini-i 4 Pro), the volume setting jumps sometimes to painfully high levels for no obvious reason.
This is how and when it happens: I start playing a playlist or an album with Apple Music and stream it via Airplay to the Mini-i. The hardware display on the streamer shows 35 as the volume setting. The Apple Music app shows 75 as the volume setting. The streamer does play at 35, so Apple Music is off here. When I now use the streamer‘s remote to change the volume to 40, the volume setting in Apple Music adjusts. But not for long. As soon as I skip a track or select a different album for playback, the volume setting in Apple Music magically moves up again to 75, for example.
Why this is a problem: when I would use the iPad‘s physical volume buttons or the app slider to change the volume while it displays the wrong 75 setting, the streamer briefly jumps up to 75 before it applies whatever new setting I would like. 75 is painfully loud with the active speakers that I have in my setup.
This bug basically makes volume control via the Apple Music app impossible. I rely on the streamer’s app and its remote control only.
I am having a hard time figuring out who the culprit is. Is it an Airplay bug? Is it a bug of the Matrix Audi streamer? A bunch of Homepods and iOS devices are connected to my network with various versions of iOS due to the age of some of the devices. I am mainly using an iPad Pro 10,5, iOS 17.4, for playback. But this bug appears on other devices as well.
If I remember correctly, I had similar problems with a Sonos Port streamer. I am wondering if this is how third party streamers sync volume settings with Airplay devices?
