Is Cleanmymac a good-for-nothing?

Personally, I would never use CleanMyMac. I tested it a few times with disastrous results. It bricked my Photos Library and cleaned caches, that were hard to recreate, in short, it has caused more problems than it claims fix. If you have installed it already, it would be safer to stop using it and uninstall it.

I use CleanMyMac from 2021 on and never had any odd effects at all of my several MacBooks.

I would not recommend it as antivirus or anti/finding malware solution as there are other antivirus products what are considered better and I would be careful with the cleaning functions of CleanMyMac as they can clean too well including things you don't wanted to clean.

Depending on what exactly you would like to archive there may be better suited software for that task.
