Tricky problem with external hard drive eject (all standard solutions don't work)
Here is a tricky problem I encounter with an external hard drive:
- the hard drive is partitioned in two partitions
- one partition is used for time-machine
- each time I want to eject it, I obtain an error message claiming that it is in use
- digging I found that it is used by spotlight-indexing
- When I use force eject, the error appears again the next time
- I cannot exclude it from spotlight indexing because it is a time machine backup
- With the disk managing program I can't run first aid, since it can't be deactivated
- restarting spotlight (by killing on the command line ), just restarts
- rebooting, updating, etc, did not change anything
- It appears for many weeks already, I use the computer daily, so spotlight can't take so long (it is 4TB though)
Any help appreciated. I scanned through the forum, google, AI, whatsoever, they just reiterate the same suggestions that are not working.
