Lost photos!

Hey there,

Since two weeks i have realized that around 500 photos and videos completely disappeared from my iPhone.

Literally all of my photos from late 2023 until early 2025 have vanished! And I didn’t even do anything.

I checked the Recently Deleted album and the Hidden album, but they’re completely gone.

What amazes me is that the photos I had hidden from that same time period are still there, but all the photos that were in my regular Photos library have disappeared.

I contacted Apple Support, but unfortunately they couldn’t help either.

To be honest, I can’t just get over losing those photos because they contain so many memories of my loved ones.

I also checked iCloud but couldn’t find anything there, probably because my storage had already been full with the free 5 GB plan. I bought more iCloud storage now, but I assume it’s too late for that.

I really appreciate any help or advice. Thank you.

I wouldn’t assume they’re gone yet, but I’d avoid deleting, resetting, signing out of iCloud, or restoring anything until you’re sure you have a current backup of what’s still on the iPhone.

Since the hidden photos from that same time period are still there, I’d check whether the missing items are in another library/account or were removed from the main library but not from Hidden.

A few low-risk things to check first:

Open Photos and go to Collections > Recently Saved and also search by month/year, like December 2023 or 2024.

Check Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos and see whether Sync this iPhone is on or off. Also check whether you’re signed in with the same Apple Account you used during 2023–2025.

Go to iCloud.com/photos from a browser and check there too, including Recently Deleted.

Also, did you ever make an encrypted backup to a Mac or PC before the photos disappeared? If so, don’t overwrite it. That may be the best place to recover them from.

I’d start with those checks before trying any restore, because restoring the wrong backup can replace what’s currently on the phone.
