Bluetooth Audio Distortion in Games on iPhone 17 Pro Max

Hello Apple Support,


I am experiencing a serious audio issue with my iPhone 17 Pro Max and Bluetooth headphones.


Device:



  • iPhone 17 Pro Max


  • iOS 26.5.2


  • AirPods Pro 2 (firmware 8B41)

Issue description:


When I play games using Bluetooth headphones, the audio starts to crackle, distort, sound robotic, or completely disappear after some time. The issue becomes much worse when the in-game voice chat is enabled and both players are speaking.

What I have already tested:



  • AirPods Pro 2 and other Bluetooth headphones show the same problem.


  • Wired headphones work perfectly.


  • The iPhone speakers work perfectly.


  • Music, YouTube, Telegram calls, and regular phone calls work normally.


  • The problem occurs in multiple games, not just PUBG Mobile.


  • If I minimize the game and open it again, the audio temporarily returns to normal.


  • I reset all settings and also erased and set up the iPhone again, but the issue remains.

Additional details:



  • On my previous iPhone 14 Pro Max, I did not experience this level of audio distortion.


  • The problem only occurs while gaming with Bluetooth audio.


  • Bluetooth headphones work normally outside of games.


  • The issue is reproducible and happens consistently.

Could you please help me determine whether this is a known iOS issue, a Bluetooth audio issue, or a hardware problem with my iPhone?

You’re posting in a user-to-user community, so Apple won’t receive this as a support case.


Based on your testing, I wouldn’t assume it’s a hardware failure. The fact that it affects several Bluetooth headsets only in games, gets worse with voice chat, and temporarily clears when you reopen the game points more to an iOS or game audio-session issue.


I’d test one affected game with its microphone access turned off under Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. If the distortion stops, that would confirm the voice-chat connection is the key trigger.

Since you’ve already erased and set up the iPhone again, I wouldn’t reset it again. Contact Apple Support, reproduce the problem, and ask them to collect diagnostics. Note the exact time it occurs, the game name, and whether voice chat was active.
