Apple Watch Series 10 – Excessive battery drain after 26.2.1 / 26.3 update

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing severe battery drain on my Apple Watch Series 10 after updating to 26.2.1. The issue continues on 26.3

Here are the details:

  • Apple Watch Series 10
  • Battery health: 98%
  • Reset and paired as new device (multiple times)
  • Background App Refresh OFF
  • Live Activities OFF
  • Always On Display OFF
  • Minimal notifications
  • No third-party complications
  • Using default “Flow” watch face

Battery behavior:

  • 6:00 am → 100%
  • 7:00 am (after 40 min workout with Ladder app) → 96%
  • 9:00 am → 78%
  • 10:00 am → 71%
  • 11:30 am → 59%

That’s around 7–9% battery drain per hour while mostly idle.

What’s strange:

  • During workouts (continuous heart rate monitoring), it only drops 2–4%.
  • The heavy drain happens while sitting at my desk with minimal interaction.
  • Sometimes it drains faster when the watch is off-wrist and on the table.

I’ve already:

  • Unpaired and set up as new
  • Updated to latest version
  • Disabled widgets and Smart Stack suggestions

Nothing improves the idle drain.

Is anyone else experiencing this after 26.2.1 or 26.3?

Could this be a software bug affecting background processes or sensors?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi there!

Since you have already reset the device and set it up as new, the battery drain is likely caused by post-update background indexing or a specific bug in version 26.x preventing the watch from entering "sleep" mode properly. A forced restart can often clear these stuck processes.

1. Force Restart: Press and hold both the Digital Crown and the Side button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

2. Wait: Allow 24-48 hours for the system to complete all background indexing tasks.

3. Contact Support: If the drain persists after 2 days, use the Apple Support app to run a remote diagnostic, as it could be a hardware sensor issue triggered by the update.

Regards!

Hi, thanks for the suggestion.

I’ve already:

• Unpaired and set up as new

• Updated to 26.3

• Forced restart

• Disabled Background App Refresh, Live Activities, and Blood Oxygen

The issue has been consistent for over a week, so it doesn’t seem like normal post-update indexing.

Today’s monitored usage:

6:00 am → 100%

4:25 pm → 20%

Average drain ≈ 7–8% per hour, even while mostly idle.

During workouts (continuous heart rate monitoring), it only drops 2–4% over 40 minutes, which suggests the battery itself is fine.

This makes me suspect the watch is not entering proper idle/deep sleep after 26.x.

Has anyone else confirmed similar behavior on Series 10?
