iPhone Storage and Backup Issue – Unable to Complete Backups

I am writing to request assistance with an ongoing issue affecting my iPhone 15 (128GB), currently running iOS 18.6.2.

For the past few months, I have been experiencing persistent problems related to WhatsApp backups on iCloud. The backups never complete successfully, and over time, this seems to have generated a large amount of residual or corrupted data. As a result, my device storage has been significantly impacted.

Currently, my iPhone shows approximately 76.94GB occupied under "System Data," which I strongly believe is largely due to these incomplete or failed backup processes. This has severely limited my available storage and is now affecting my ability to use the device for daily and work-related tasks.

I have already sought help from multiple technical support services, but the only solution offered so far has been a full device reset, which would result in the loss of all my data — something I am trying to avoid.

As an alternative, I attempted to back up my iPhone using iTunes via cable. However, I encountered another issue: the backup process never completes, appearing to get stuck or fail, possibly due to corrupted data.


At this point, I am stuck in a loop:

  • I cannot complete a backup via iCloud due to lack of space.
  • I cannot complete a backup via cable due to apparent corruption.
  • I cannot reset the device without a successful backup.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance on how to:

  1. Safely remove or clean up this excessive "System Data."
  2. Resolve the backup issue (either iCloud or cable).
  3. Recover usable storage without losing my personal data.

This issue is becoming critical, as it is directly impacting my productivity and daily usage.
