If you suspect that your Mac is already infected, you could install an antivirus software and let it scan. Here's one: Malwarebytes for Mac | Malwarebytes. Overview over some alternatives: https://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/mac-software/mac-antivirus-3672182/
Keep in mind, most Antivirus Software also installs a real-time scanner which permanently runs in the background. These scanners usually slow-down your Mac a bit, have little benefit if you apply some common sense and might negatively impact battery lifetime.
Personally I wouldn't use any Antivirus-Software on my Mac which runs permanently in the background. With some common sense and the protections built into macOS the risk of getting infected is still quite low.
