High CPU load due to kernel task makes using the Computer impossible, how to deactivate that specific kernel task extension?
Hi,
I have an old MacBook Pro and recently updatede the software to catallina due to some software compability issues.
Now sadly whenever I run the slightest performance heavy program the kernel task explodes in CPU usage (1500 or more) and makes using the computer impossible.
For example by just running word the computer slows down to an unbearable speed, not to mention trying to run two programs at the same time (like firefox and word). As a sort of benchmark test I've started up Minecraft which alone runs at a whopping 4 fps. (Keep in mind that I've used this laptop to play Battlefield on Bootcamp with 30fps, funnily running the windows bootcamp partition does obviously not offer any restrictions and there I can run many heavy performance programs without issue. It's quite silly that windows runs much better on the macbook pro than OSX.)
I've already had some issues with heat in my laptop which is why the fans are manually set to the max all the time already and my CPU temperature is idle at about 70-75*, which is high, agreed, but for my specific laptop is normal. I've worked with it for years with these temps and never had issues running CPU intensive programs (CPU never goes over 100* and seldomly over 90*).
I've found this article which might explain my issues:
https://support.apple.com/de-de/HT207359
I suppose this new restriction has been introduced with the catallina update, sadly the article provides no explanation on how to actually fix the issue, which isn't really an issue but actually a very bad feature.
My question would be how to deactivate this kernel extension because it makes my laptop pretty much unusable atm. Maybe deactivate the CPU sensor so that specific extension doesn't get triggered? Not sure if that's even possible.
Sadly downgrading the software isn't an option due to program compability issues.
