factory reset iPhone S

I tried the way it is described in the support section here, but it won't work.

I have the iPhone disconnected from the computer. The phone is locked (my daughter forgot the passcode). I turn it off as described. I connect it and turn it on, holding the key but the phone will go to lock screen.

When I turn it on and then connect it - same.

When I keep pressing the button all the time it vibrates sometimes, but nothing happens.

During the pandemic I am not eager to go to my local store

Help is very much appreciated

Can you perform a forced restart?

If this is an iPhone SE 1st generation, press and hold the Home- and Sleep/Wake button for at least 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again on the home screen.

If an iPhone SE 2nd generation: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the side button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

If this works, try again:

Connect the phone to the computer, and make sure, that iTunes recognizes the phone.

Then force restart the device and keep holding the buttons, until you see the "Connect to iTunes screen".

Thank you for your reply but I did exactly this... The problem is that the phone won't set to recovery mode. It shows the apple logo - I connect it and keep pressing the button - the phone shows the Lock Screen. I connect it and press the button then - the phone vibrates and shows the Lock Screen. If I keep pressing the button the phone vibrates sometimes, but won't go into recovery mode.
