„Hide my email“ doesn’t send from email alias

This is a warning to everybody using „Hide my email“ from iCloud. When you respond to an email sent to an address you created, it gets sent from your standard iCloud email address exposing your email address after all. I recommend you create a real alias with a different provider to be sure this doesn’t happen to you.
