Use iMac M1 as an external screen for MacBook Pro M1

Hi! I have a MacBook Pro M1 from work and I consider buying a iMac for private use.

  1. If I do home office I would like to use the iMac as an external monitor though. Is this somehow possible so working is still enjoyable / without a lag? Would be best if somebody has already some experience with this and can give me some feedback.
  2. As I researched it is not possible to use the iMac as a secondary monitor to the MacBook Pro, right?

I would appreciate a response, thank you ahead.

Hey jennifer528,

the conventional wired TDM (Target Display Mode) is not possible with the newer iMacs and certainly not with the M1-iMac; you can therefore absolutely rule out any wired connection; AirPlay or "Luna Display" (--> google) could help.

Cheers

As I mentioned above, AirPlay definitely should work, as also described in detail in the video mentioned.

The other option, AirPlay-like, should usually work via "Luna Display"; for this --> google.
