Apple Watch swim tracking with unintended results - can anyone help?

Hi there,

I use my Apple Watch 8 watchOS 9.2 to track my pool swimming.

The pool length is 30 m. I swim every pool length freestyle and every other pool length breast.

When I check the record in the Apple fitness app, everything is perfectly tracked, but the problem is:

The Apple watch randomly merges multiple pool lengths into automatic sets of 60 or 120 m.

This is annoying, because I'd like to see my pace for one pool length and not for multiple lengths with a mix of freestyle and breast stroke.

Is this a bug or a feature? Does anybody know a workaround?
