Stop iCloud from automatically syncing Photos

I wanna stop iCloud from automatically syncing my photos

i want to optimise my iPhone storage but i don’t want that to happen automatically sometimes i wanna delete some photos and post some on social media the next day or tow then have the lower resolution version on my phone

it’s very annoying to post something and realise how bad the quality is because iCloud has already synced and replace the original
