iOS 18 Battery Charging Limit Feature and Sustainability

Dear Apple Team,

as a long-time Apple enthusiast with 12 Apple products currently in use, including an iPhone 13 Pro Max, I am writing to express my concerns regarding the latest iOS 18 update and its impact on older iPhone models.

I recently noticed that the new battery charging limit feature, which is designed to extend battery life, is not available on my iPhone 13 Pro Max after updating to iOS 18. This omission is particularly concerning to me, as I believe it would be technically feasible to include this feature in devices like mine through the software update.

Last year, Apple released an impressive advertisement featuring "Mother Nature" visiting Apple for a meeting. This commercial highlighted Apple's commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, which deeply resonated with me as a consumer. In light of this commitment, I believe that extending the battery charging limit feature to iPhone models like my 13 Pro Max aligns perfectly with Apple's sustainability goals.

By implementing this feature across a wider range of devices, including the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple could significantly contribute to extending the lifespan of iPhones, reducing electronic waste, and promoting environmental conservation. This approach would not only benefit the environment but also demonstrate Apple's dedication to supporting its existing customer base.

I would greatly appreciate if you could address the following questions:

1. Is there a technical reason why the battery charging limit feature cannot be implemented on the iPhone 13 Pro Max and other similar models through a software update?

2. If not, would Apple consider extending this feature to devices like mine in a future update?

3. How does Apple balance the environmental benefits of extending device lifespans with the potential impact on new device sales?

I believe that prioritizing the longevity of existing devices through features like the battery charging limit would further solidify Apple's position as a leader in sustainable technology. While I understand this approach might potentially affect new device sales, it would undoubtedly strengthen customer loyalty and align with the environmental values Apple has so effectively communicated.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my feedback. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter and hope to see Apple continue its impressive efforts in sustainability.

Best regards,

Michael Stein

Hey Michael,

For some reason you've ended up here in the German-speaking Apple support community - we can only help you to a limited extent. In addition, no one who will answer you here works at Apple. We are all users ourselves who help each other. This website is therefore the wrong contact channel for your request. However, you are welcome to send it to Product Feedback - Apple - perhaps it will find a response there

Hello Michael,

Thank you for sharing your detailed thoughts and concerns with us. It’s important to note that this forum is read by fellow Apple users, and while it is moderated by Apple, it primarily serves as a user-to-user support space rather than a direct communication channel with Apple’s official support team.

Regarding your question about the battery charging limit feature not being available on your iPhone 13 Pro Max after the iOS 18 update: Apple often limits certain features to newer devices due to specific hardware or software requirements that may not be fully supported by older models. This might explain why the battery limit feature hasn’t been extended to your device. However, it’s certainly possible that Apple could include this feature in a future update if technically feasible.

Since sustainability and device longevity are important to you, I encourage you to share your feedback directly with Apple through their official feedback page. Apple has shown a strong commitment to environmental goals, as demonstrated in the "Mother Nature" campaign you mentioned, so your input could help shape future decisions.

For those who prefer English, we also have a dedicated community at discussions.apple.com. Since your post is in English, feel free to explore and engage with our English-speaking community there.

I hope this information helps, and I wish you all the best in your efforts to reach out to Apple!

Warm regards, and thank you again for your valuable contribution!
