iPhone got wet after a Battery exchange

Hello, I have had a battery replacement done at the Apple Store. Afterwards, the iPhone was no longer waterproof and water leaked in during a rain shower. I miss Apple's independent and customer-friendly or accommodating handling of this problem. The technician at the Apple Store says he didn't make a mistake. How was I supposed to check this?
