Macbook turning hot incredibly fast

I just got a new M4 Macbook Pro Max 14" w/ 64gb of memory. Coming from an M1 Pro that has always stayed extremely quiet, I'm running into issues when putting this in my standard environment (connected to a dock, with an external monitor in clamshell mode).

The problem is that the GPU temperature is rising fast, even when not doing anything in particular, and then the fans start blasting. For reference the image below, which shows the system load at 7%, yet a GPU cluster running 100+ degrees. LM Studio is on, but it's not in use (or recently used) when this happens (obviously the temp rises when it's being used)

Is this normal behaviour or should I contact Apple about this?
