Phone number not showing on iphone/imessage

Hello all,

I just moved to Algeria and with a new iphone xr, I tried setting up the sim card, but the phone number isn't recognized under PHONE and imessage doesn't recognize it either.

I tried going to "name, phone numbers, email" and I added my phone number there but there isn't "information" icone by neither my email nor my phone number to set up my imessage like I saw in multiple youtube videos.

Any help? I know it's not the carrier since my friend has the same and hers works fine.
