Intentional Storage Lock? iPhone 12 Pro 512GB hijacked by "From My Mac" photos.

I am a long-term premium customer (MacBook Pro, iPhone 12 Pro 512GB, iPad, Time Capsule). I invested

over €1,500 in my current iPhone to ensure longevity, but Apple has turned it into a 'storage hostage'.

I have ~140GB of 'From My Mac' synced photos that cannot be deleted directly on the device. Because my MacBook Pro (Late 2013) and the iPhone 12 Pro no longer communicate properly due to

software incompatibilities created by Apple, I am stuck with a full device that I cannot clean.

The only 'solution' offered by the system is to subscribe to iCloud—which I do not trust for privacy—or buy

the new iPhone 17 for €1,749.

This feels like forced obsolescence and digital extortion.

A premium device should allow basic file management without forcing cloud subscriptions.

After 3 Macs and 2 iPhones, this is how Apple treats

loyalty?

This will be my last Apple product.

I get why that feels frustrating, but this isn’t Apple locking your storage or forcing an upgrade. “From My Mac” photos are part of a synced library (via Finder/iTunes), so they can’t be deleted directly on the iPhone - you have to change the sync from the Mac and re-sync. The issue you’re hitting is more about an older Mac not playing nicely with newer iOS versions, not intentional “extortion.”

If your iPhone 12 Pro and MacBook Pro (Late 2013) won’t sync properly, a workaround is to use a newer Mac (even temporarily) to remove those photos, or disable photo syncing and re-sync with an empty selection. iCloud is optional here - it’s not required to fix this.
