authentication failed imap icloud mail on windows live mail with two step authentication

I have set up 2 step authentication on my ios devices and now cannot use my icloud email accounts on windows live mail 2011 client on windows 7 pro OS. Always get a Authentication Failed message:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Me (xxxxxxx) account.

Header download for the 'Inbox' folder did not complete. The operation was cancelled by the user.
