Can't connect my 30" Cinema HD Display to my Macbook Pro 2018 via a DVI to USB-C adapter. Backlight flashing for a second.
Hey I recently got my hands on an old 30" Cinema HD Display (M9179) which I wanted to use as a secondary display for my Macbook Pro 2018. To connect the monitor to my Macbook I bought an USB-C to DVI adapter. The Cinema HD Display works with my old PC with a DVI connection on the graphics card, it just does not want to work with my Macbook though.
When I connect both devices the following happens:
- The Macbook display goes black for a second like when every other monitor is connected (good)
- The backlight of the Cinema Display lights up for a second
- The backlight and the small LED turn off for a second
- The small LED turns back on
Here's a video of that (it's a bit hard to see the backlight turn on): https://youtu.be/jLzHyzaJaxY
The Cinema HD Display is recognized by the Macbook event after the backlight turns off again.
I already tried out my USB-C to DVI adapter with a different monitor, which worked. So it probably also can't be at fault.
