Bothersome Bing Redirect Virus on Safari

Hard to imagine, but my Mac is being hassled by a virus. When I am using Safari, and run a search via Google, choose one of the search links, and then try and return to the original search suggestions I am suddenly dragged (by force) over to Bing. Bing then enters the exact same text search which I had placed in Google and shows me their results. I have tried everything including the Apple support chat in order to fix this, but it has been all for nothing so far. The Apple chat person even suggested I download and use an anti-virus software, which I did, but that was also not effective. Does anyone have a solution for this after having had a similar experience? Thank you for your help.

That's not a virus but a browser hijacker. Please check Safari-->Preferences-->Plugins and delete any you don't need or want. If you can't find any via Safari, do a Spotlight-search für plugins and look for suspiscious ones (you have to scroll down in the results list to find them). Delete any you dont't want.

Then check System-Preferences and delete any folders named "Profiles" you can find. Please make sure these are no profiles you need for VPN etc.
