I tried to install Monterey on my Mac, but it does not reboot properly

Hi,

I tried to install Monterey on my iMac 2017, but after the installation the iMac does not start anymore (it says there is an error by start-up).

I tried command-R and reinstalling, but it always complain that he wanted to install Monterey again, which I did, but again same problem.

Now I formatted my disk and want to restore my backup (which I did with BigSur before installing Monterey) from an external disk. But how I can do that? The Time Machine does not see the backup...

Thanks,

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

Hey raffaele288,

you might download Big Sur-Installer from the web site mentioned; the InstallAssistant will place the installer into the applications folder

https://mrmacintosh.com/macos-big-sur-full-installer-database-download-directly-from-apple/

You'd find your Big Sur installer in the applications folder

now you need to format a ≥ 16 GB USB stick (Extended journaled, GUID Partition Map) , and name it "Stick" ❗️.

Then open Terminal

and type in the following command, in this case simply use copy & paste

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Stick

the command must be confirmed with the admin password and then with "y" (for yes); after 10 - 20 minutes the bootable Big Sur USB stick will be finished; when starting your Mac with the "option" key pressed, you'd boot your computer from the stick

and reinstall MacOS Big Sur which should definitely recognise your TM backup.

If any problem will arise --> Com back 😎

Liebe Grüße

Manfred
