Magic Keyboard battery level not showing on iMac 2012 with macOS Catalina

Magic Keyboard battery level not showing on Macbook Pro with Catalina ...

So I got a brand new Magic Keyboard to use with my imac running Catalina 10.15.7. I am able to connect the keyboard to the imac and use it. However, two things are not working

* The battery level indicator does not show

* I am not able to use the volume up/down keys ( on the F11/F12 )

So far I have tried unpairing/pairing the keyboard, doing a factory reset to the keyboard, reseting the bluetooth module on the lap, but it does not fix the problem.

I do not see any thing in my system preferences .

Would love some help on this ..

Perhaps you are looking in the wrong place. The battery symbol of your magic keyboard hides behind the BT icon in the menu bar on the right hand top of your screen and not in system preferences.

Changing the volume with the F11-F12 keys works fine if you press the FN key (lower left corner of your keyboard) simultaneously.
