Monterey, issues with external USB-C SATA SSD case
Since Update on Monterey, some USB-C device do not work anymore.
I have an external ICY BOX SATA SSD case which will connect if plugged-in for the first time. Filesystem is mounted. Once I try to write something onto the SSD, filesystem on SSD is destroyed (literally)!
Drive will not mount again on any computer! SSD and case is not show any more in Disk Utility. If I insert a freshly reformatted SSD in the ICY BoX again, its starting all over, drive is mounting, write destroys filesystem, SSD will not mount again, until reformatted (in another case)...
I tried:
- different computers: Mac Pro (2019), Mac Book Pro (16", 2017), all the same behaviour
- Of course I tries to reset SMC and NVRAM, doesn't help
- tried different USB-C cables, no difference
- tried a brand new box, also doesn't work
- SSD (Samsung 860 EVO) is working perfectly in an old USB 2.0 case, check does not show any SSD issues, SSD is ok
- manufacturer of ICY BOX (and many Internet sites) claim that the problem is a bug in Monterey(, introduced in beta phase (?), they might be right
Currently, it is practically not possible to use USB-C for external SSD!
Any other suggestions or ideas how to fix this? Any bug fix on the way from Apple?
