How to properly restore SSD from DMG disk image on Mojave?

Hi there,

I had to replace the drive in an older MacBook Pro from lack of space. It had been running 10.13.x before that. Of course, since I didn't want to lose a working install, I connected the extracted SSD to a USB interface and cloned it. Being 10.13, the SSD was natively formatted as APFS and used two "virtual containers", one for data, one for system. Now I got a larger SSD and I want to clone the image back to the SSD. The cloning computer is a Mojave.

Seems simple enough.

Except that it doesn't behave as described in this page.

I already formatted the new SSD with GUID partition map and single APFS partition.

The SSD I want to restore to is at the top, the disk image is below. Please ignore the other external HDD as it's a Time Machine drive.

I tried: restoring the lowest level (highlighted in blue) from the same lowest level image: FAILS with error:

Validando origen...
El volumen del dispositivo “/dev/disk6” no es de tipo Apple_HFS o Apple_UFS
No se pudo validar el origen: Dispositivo no configurado
No se pudo completar la operación. (Error de OSStatus 6)

Operación fallida…

Restoring the middle-level container to the same middle-level: oops, can't do that, it's greyed out:

Restoring the non-data container to the highest level partition: FAILS

La imagen “” no tiene ningún volumen adecuado para restaurar.
No se pudo validar el origen: Argumento no válido
No se pudo completar la operación. (Error de OSStatus 22)

Operación fallida…

Any help? I feel like I'm missing something obvious here…

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12
